The Black Goats

The black goats. A street scene in Paris in 1895. Goatherds came from the Pyrénees to Paris, and even to Belgium, with their Pyrenean black goats, to sell the fresh milk that was delicious.
The poet Jean Richepin wrote a short text about the event in his book ‘’Le Pavé’’. About the goatherd, he says :
He is in mountain jacket. The shepherd staff in hand, the wicker basket on the back, he is wearing a beret. No chic beret that mark the young. It's a natural beret, camped by hand, by a peasant, without ulterior motive of niceties, and all the same, a beautiful look.
Thank you, Jean-Claude
