Ingmar Bergman

The beret is much associated with the film industry and many directors adopted the beret as their favorite headgear (or to reinforce the symbol as a film producer's attribute...).
The Swedish director Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) was one of many film directors well known for wearing a beret and for making beautiful timeless movies.

Between 1944 and 2003 Bergman directed 62 films and over 170 plays, often with great actors like Liv Ullman, Bibi Andersson and Max van Sydow.

Most of his film were set in the Swedish landscape; his major themes being death, illness, betrayal and insanity. In a 2004 interview, Bergman said he was depressed by his own films and couldn't watch them anymore. In these films, he said, he pushed the medium to its limit.

Bergman is one of the great directors who managed to make movies for a budget that was unthinkable for Hollywood producers (whom he viewed as obsessed with box-office earnings).

A full overview of Bergman's films, stage productions and documentaries can be found here.
